The Story of Amatys by Nabucco

The story of Amatys could be told this way…

Once upon a time, in the magical world of scents there was a small fascinating piece of land where the most rare blends made of precious raw materials were created by talented fairies. In this place there have been born some of the most exquisite perfumes such as Guerlain Mon Nectar Precieux, Clive Christian No1 For Woman, Van Cleef & Arpels Orchidee Vanille, Amouage Memoir or Isabey Gardenia to name a few, all of these being small wonders, nectars of life and eternal beauty elixirs, special blends that should never be regarded as common scents.

One day, while all the fairies and dwarfs were busy working on a new formula, something unexpected occurred. The ever shiny blue sky suddenly opened as a gate sending a blinding ray of light to earth, right in the middle of that garden of magical scents where peace and happiness ruled until then. The light faded then slowly and everyone could see that it left something in the grass, between daisies and poppies. It was a bizarre looking shiny black object. All the fairies, dragonflies and gnomes gathered around the extraterrestrial object that looked smooth as a mirror reflecting their astonished faces.

What could it be? The old dwarf with silky blue beard said “Ah dammit, no need to worry…this looks just like a curious bottle of cognac, let`s see how it tastes!” But the one eyed wise goblin interrupted him quickly: “I don`t think we should drink that, remember what happened when you told us that Royal Bain from Caron is a champagne bottle? This must be a perfume, otherwise it wouldn`t have been send in our land“.

Then, out of nowhere the most powerful witch appeared pushing everyone aside and taking the object in her hands she exclaimed: “Oh you poor naive creatures! This is a dangerous thing, you should be very careful now or else you are doomed! I know what is inside. It is a magnificent perfume, sweet as the taste of life, amazing and mysterious as the ray of light that brought it here. Little is being known about it, but I assure you that if you smell it once you are lost…because all of the sudden all other perfumes you ever enjoyed in your life will seem dull. It has the power to control your mind. I`ll try to destroy it before it will be to late“. But right in that moment, the old raven that witnessed everything from her shoulder opened its large shiny wings and lifted the bottle from her hands in its iron beak. It flew above the amazed crowed making three large circles in the air, then it broke the heavy perfume glass living the scent fall over them all like a rain of small gold particles. Therefore everyone enjoyed the scent equally, from the picky fairies to the die-heard vanilla fans dwarfs. The perfume was so… surreal soft, sweet and unexpected silky in texture. Something that no one has ever experienced before. For three days and three nights the happiness ruled there, they all danced and partied under the spell of the magnificent perfume.

But then….

…when the scent started to fade a cold thrill crossed the land. The music and joyful laughs stopped, being replaced by an ominous silence. All of a sudden they casted hateful glances at each other and the rage started to spread in the peaceful and idyllic land. They jumped like wolves attacking each other, in desire of getting one last bit of that magical potion from another one`s clothes. But it was nothing left. Their pleasing life has been transformed into a hell.

Amatys by Nabucco, created in 1997 by a French luxury brand is the best vanilla scent I have ever smelled. So smooth, so silky, so extremely well done. It is a perfume oil (Extrait) presented in three different sizes, one is a vessel of 60 ml, another size is called “the door”and has 20 ml and the smaller version is an amulet of 5 ml. Inside each there`s a beautiful golden pipette, making the applying seem an indulgence allowed only for Goddesses. The perfume was inspired by the love of Nebuchadnezzar II for his wife, Queen Amytis. He built the famous Hanging Gardens for her, because she missed so much the forested mountains of her homeland.

Amatys is a linear scent that seems filtered through a veil of silk. I suspect it was build by reconstructing the natural vanilla pod flavour, combining different elements which posses a vanillic facet, such as the heliotropine for example, with its part bitter, part sweet almondy and vanilla accents. The heliotropine here offers also a faint powdery floral accent that lifts a bit the composition, not allowing it to become too dense. Then there is a delicious musk side which also controls the sweetness balance and adds a constant fluffy feeling of coziness, giving warmth and rounding everything like in an ultra fine wool ball.

When applied on skin the body temperature will warm the scent and the wearer will exude a dream flavor for hours. I perceive it in waves from time to time around me. It is not powerful, more like a skin scent and I find it even more dangerous this way as than if it was a fragrance bomb. It seduces everyone around, people will raise their noses to catch more of that sweet, cozy scent you wear. To use carefully :).

Amatys seems to be a kind of scent that can build the naive idea that the world is just a beautiful place full of wonders…

Hi, my name is Raluca! I am born in Romania and live in Switzerland for many years. I love perfumes since I was a little girl and now I am an avid perfume collector and totally dedicated to the amazing world of essences. I am always looking for something new and interesting to discover and among my personal preferences are the delicate and powdery notes, but also some bold orientals. I admire both clasic and niche fragrances with a special twist in them. A good perfume for me should be able to put me in a special mood, to complete and inspire me…things I need when I paint or do photography, my other two passions.
