Mission accomplished: a true gardenia in Sotto La Luna Gardenia from Andy Tauer

in Reviews by

I was so thrilled when it came to my knowledge that Andy Tauer will launch a gardenia scent, first because I`ve always admired he`s creations that are so distinctively beautiful and secondly because gardenia is one of my top favorite notes in perfumes.

You probably know that it is impossible to produce a natural gardenia oil, so it depends of the perfumer`s skills how he decides to mix different synthetic and natural ingredients in order to mimic the smell of the flower. I can imagine it must be quite hard and challenging to do that. Some gardenia based perfumes are stunning, other less true to the flower but still interesting and there are also a few ones that failed completely. Of course picking the best ingredients is important in order to portray this capricious flower, but I think it`s all about talent in the end.

For two days I`ve worn my sample of Gardenia and now I feel myself ready to share my thoughts with you. With this scent Andy Tauer opens a new chapter of his collection, poetically called Sotto La Luna, a line which will encompass compositions dedicated to night blooming sensual flowers. My skin welcomed Gardenia and we had some fun together for many hours. Andy decides to remain faithful to he`s style creating again a complex, original and very long lasting scent. With a solid structure it depicts different aspects of the flower, like a 3D capture of gardenia. Possibly ten times bigger as the flower in real life.

When the night comes and all other innocent flowers fall asleep, the Gardenia Goddess starts to awake. Warmed the whole day by the sun she stretches now her lithe body, opening slowly one by one her opalescent petals, emanating the riches scent you can imagine. It smells both raw and tender. Addictive. Lush. It feels a bit peppery at start, like a magic mixture of spices falling gently over her thick white petals influencing them to bloom completely. After the spicy vibe dissipates, the scent becomes smoother and sweeter, reminding me a bit of a suntan lotion. Today the weather is chilly here in Bern, therefore I`m wrapped in a warm sweater drinking a second cup of Earl Grey, but wearing Gardenia I can easily imagine myself relaxing far away on an exotic beach. In time the scent develops an almost gourmand facet when the mixture of good vanilla pod and bittersweet-almondy tonka beans produces an irresistible finish.Wearing this perfume feels like buds of gardenia are starting to bloom directly on the surface of my skin. Sensual, possessive, intoxicating.

I am gardenia when I`m wearing this.

You can preorder the fragrance at Essenza Nobile here. Samples are already available.

Hi, my name is Raluca! I am born in Romania and live in Switzerland for many years. I love perfumes since I was a little girl and now I am an avid perfume collector and totally dedicated to the amazing world of essences. I am always looking for something new and interesting to discover and among my personal preferences are the delicate and powdery notes, but also some bold orientals. I admire both clasic and niche fragrances with a special twist in them. A good perfume for me should be able to put me in a special mood, to complete and inspire me…things I need when I paint or do photography, my other two passions.
