The ad copy for Al Waad (Promise) by perfumer Dominique Ropion for Les Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle reads as follows:

“Frédéric Malle celebrates two precious varieties of rose in the Promise Eau de Parfum.

A harmonious blend of rose essence from Bulgaria and rose absolute from Turkey are lifted by apple, pink pepper and clove, and bound to a sensuous base of patchouli, cypriol and labdanum for a truly unbreakable accord.”

I agree with the “truly unbreakable accord” bit. I sprayed this on at 2pm yesterday and as of 2pm today, Promise is still there. But while one can’t argue with its performance, I’m ambivalent about whether it’s outstayed its welcome on the piece of skin real estate stretching from my right wrist to inner elbow. Energizer__18746.1405405439.300.400Boadicea The Victorious is a British luxury fragrance brand. Created by British artisans, the perfume collection is meant to celebrates ancient courage and power. It is “a unisex brand that is a fusion of tradition, heritage and timeless classic luxury, with an edgy, modern twist” (from the website).

My first ‘test object’ from the BTV line is called ‘Energizer‘. Definitely a fitting name as this fragrance starts with a blast of citrus (lime, pink grapefruit, bergamot), continues with Petitgrain before leading over to a base of vetiver and musk. KEEP ON READING

Oh. My. God. What is this smell? Is this what dying smell like? Seriously, I must open the window first to inhale some fresh air and I`ll be back soon for the review.

After an hour or so.

I managed to survive, it`s ok, life is beautiful again. Avène (that French multiporpuse spray with thermal spring water) does wonders as always when I need to refresh a bit my face…and mind. Me and my typical curiosity: I felt brave and wanted to take a break from good (or better said safe) floral and oriental scents which I adore the most and to investigate the avant-garde of niche perfumery.

Because Intricate IS the olfactory definition of avant-garde. KEEP ON READING
