I have been looking to try one of the Bond No. 9 fragrances for a while, so none better than the ‘New York Patchouli’ to start with.
First of all – I have decided to change my fragrance testing routine from now on. It will be the test strip first, before the back of my hand. Talk about staying power or longevity, NYP has got to be the bench mark. Some rubbed off onto the sleeve of my jumper and the next day transferred from the sleeve back to the back of my hand and there it was, all over again.
While I usually consider that a great quality, not so this time. I have to admit, ‘New York Patchouli’ turns my stomach. I have tried really hard to like it, re-visited over and over again, but it just doesn’t work. I think it’s the noted gourmet and later the musk addition that doesn’t agree with me. They are very strong to the point of the patchouli getting lost in the mix. I might be too much of a traditionalist when it comes to Patchouli so I don’t want to discard NYP all together, but definitely try it first.
For me, I prefer (at least at this stage) the more classic versions like the Mazzolari or ‘Classic Patchouli by Von Eusersdorff and as daytime/for work variety, maybe try Tom Ford’s ‘White Patchouli’.
